Day 2 Leslie Dam 6.09.22

Our van basking in the morning sunshine.

I just finished saying to Mark that I hadn't spotted a platypus yet and amazingly one floated up to the surface and went back down a few seconds later right near where we were sitting for breakfast. We both saw it so it's a confirmed sighting.

The road out.
Stopped at the old Yarraman station.

Frosted glass picture of a steam train.

Parked at the Heritage centre and walked into town.

After coffee at the bakery we headed off for Oakey.  Along the way I found an old rail tunnel south of Cooyar thanks to the Wikicamps app.
The gravel road in was well maintained

This area has had a lot of rain and was very stinky from the water laying around and rotting prickly pear in the mud.

The entrance was very muddy and I refused to jump over the puddles. Mark's much more coordinated than me.

Missed the turn off for Oakey as I was distracted by the water over the road.
After lunch in the park we went for a walk beside Oakey Creek then into town.
A rock wall we climbed up to get back up to the park.

Gunther caught us up just as we were finishing our walk.
Setting up at Washpool campground at Leslie Dam.

Wine o'clock by the waters edge watching the sunset. Can life get any better.

A very enjoyable day exploring places we hadn't been to before.
The evening was quite cool so we headed in about 9pm and put the heater on. We did manage to see the International Space Station despite the cloud cover.
Today we travelled 213kms, taking the total hitched to 456kms.
